NWA Announces Online Boarding Passes
Travelers reminded that plans must be firm to avoid problems

Northwest announced recently that as of October 16, travelers can now obtain their own boarding passes, and change seat assignments from the NWA web site. Following are the highlights and a couple advisories passed on by travelers regarding online boarding pass service.

  • Check-in via NWA.com for a flight up to 24 hours in advance, but not less than 90 minutes prior to departure. The nwa.com check-in process is available for e-ticket reservations from Minneapolis/St. Paul to any non-stop destination in the United States.
  • A boarding pass is issued off your printer.
  • Upgrades are possible online, if the fare and space are available.
  • Luggage can be checked curbside with a skycap. If traveling with carry-on , customers may go directly to the gate for boarding.
NOTE: The advisories listed below are from travelers who have given Northwestern Travel Management agents a couple of "heads-ups" regarding this service.

  • When travelers print their boarding pass, reservation is closed to any further changes by NTM or anyone; unless you have a full coach, fully changeable and refundable ticket. Some travelers prefer to check in at the gate, to assure they have the ability to change plans or flights as late as possible.
  • Getting the boarding pass anywhere but at the airport increases the risk of losing it. This was one of the original benefits of e-tickets: no lost papers to worry about. A lost boarding pass will require travelers to re-check in at gate anyway.
