Airline Labor Updates - Strike Action Plan

Posted on: Monday, April 2, 2001, 11:50 GMT

To our customers:

This is an update of the actions we are taking to help customers of Northwestern Travel Management through the uncertainty of airline labor negotiations.

  • Action: For all of our customers to read any time, we have posted Airline Labor Updates at www.. Each airline's logo is linked to a daily update of its labor negotiations. Airline Labor Updates is focused strictly on the timing of possible strikes - what step each airline is at in negotiations with union members. The only purpose of Airline Labor Updates is to help our customers make decisions about their travel plans.

The President of the United States has said he will prevent strikes at the nations airlines. So far, he's kept his word. Given the stance of President Bush in the context of a sobering economy, we judge the likelihood of a strike at any one of the four largest airlines to be unlikely.

However unlikely, we recognize our customers' unease with even a remote possibility of a strike disrupting travel plans, so we took the following action:

  • Action: For our customer/passengers booked on any airline, regardless of size, we have established the following process:

-- A communications team has been formed to insure consistent, timely and accurate information is distributed both internally and externally.
-- All NTM managers have been notified of potential strike dates and are closely monitoring staffing needs for those specific periods of time.
-- Our proprietary 24-hour service, ACCESS will have increased staff on duty the evening of a potential strike.
-- If a strike should appear imminent we will begin offering paper tickets for travel dates potentially affected by a strike.
-- One week prior to any of the potential strike dates we will identify those travelers booked on the affected carrier.
-- If a strike appears imminent we will re-accommodate and contact all travelers who are booked four weeks out from the initial strike date. Travelers will receive new itineraries confirming their new flight schedules and coinciding car and hotel reservations. Their initial flights will not be cancelled should the airline settle.
-- Should a strike last beyond one week, we will continuously monitor those booked four weeks out from the current date and follow the re-accommodation process.
-- In the event a strike does not happen or a resolution is found in the initial stages, all re-accommodated flights will be cancelled and the original itineraries will remain in tact.

Please rest assured that Northwestern Travel Management is prepared, at a moment's notice, to assist our customers with re-booking and re-accommodations.
