New Security Procedures at Checkpoints

In cooperation with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), gate screening of Northwest/KLM passengers will soon be eliminated. The passenger identification and enhanced security screening procedures will now be conducted at the security checkpoints. The change to procedures will be phased in for all U.S. airports, and was recently introduced at the Edward H.
McNamara Terminal and Northwest Airlines WorldGateway in Detroit. Plans call for expanding the new program to other U.S. airports in the coming months.

Previously, customers holding a receipt for an electronic ticket, an itinerary printed by Northwest or a travel agency confirming the electronic ticket number, or a paper ticket were allowed to go through security checkpoints. Under the new TSA security procedures, passengers must present a boarding pass to enter areas beyond security checkpoints. As a result, receipts, printed itineraries, and paper tickets are no longer sufficient documentation to allow passengers through security.

During the transition period, Northwest/KLM travelers will experience varying TSA security checkpoint requirements. To ensure a hassle-free experience, customers with E-Tickets are encouraged to take advantage of Internet check-in at nwa.com or one of our E-Service Centers to print their boarding pass. This will ensure compliance with the new TSA requirements and help to reduce airport lines. Passengers with a paper ticket must check in with a Northwest/KLM agent.
