Holiday Travel
The
holiday season is fast approaching and despite an economy that still shows
only sporadic signs of recovery, holiday travelers are returning to the
skies in numbers almost as heavy as during the Thanksgiving periods prior
to 2001. This is definitely a positive sign for the airline industry,
which has been struggling over the past year.
If you haven't made your holiday travel plans yet, you may be too late
for many destinations. In a typical year, travelers know to plan ahead
of time, as the holidays are among the most in-demand travel times. But
of course we’re not having a typical year. The combination of the
September 11 terrorist attacks, the bombing in Bali and the uncertain
economy have disrupted travel patterns, forcing airlines to reduce schedules
and limit service to many destinations.
For assistance in booking your holiday vacation, please call the NTM
Owatonna, MN office at or toll free, .
If you are planning to fly this holiday season, plan to wrap your gifts
at your final destination. Be aware that travelers will not be allowed
to bring wrapped packages on-board the aircraft. It is best to place unwrapped
gifts/packages in your checked luggage or if possible, ship packages to
your destination in advance.
Additionally, please be aware that there are still many items that cannot
be carried aboard an airplane. Airport screeners will confiscate prohibited
items such as knives, flammable devices and firearms. Those who attempt
to bring banned items through the checkpoints are subject to civil penalties
of up to $1,100 per violation in addition to criminal penalties.
To view a list of prohibited items and holiday season travel tips, please
visit the Transportation Security Administration Web site at www.tsa.gov.
