Airline Flight Service Updates

Aeromexico
Aeromexico will launch nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City July 7. The four weekly flights will make Fort Lauderdale the airline's 17th U.S. gateway.

AeroMexico said it is adding the service because of the expanding business, leisure and ethnic markets north of Miami in Broward and Palm Beach counties, and their increasing demand for travel to Mexico from a more convenient gateway.

AirTran Airways has launched nonstop daily jet service between Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport, with continuing service to Boston. The service is operated with Boeing 717 aircraft.

AirTran Airways has also enhanced service between Atlanta and Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem starting August 5. All flights to/from Los Angeles will be operated by Ryan International Airlines using A320 aircraft.

Starting October 4, Airtran will offer new nonstop service to Orlando from Dallas/Ft. Worth and Minneapolis/St. Paul. All flights will be operated with Boeing 717 equipment. Tickets are now available for purchase.

The carrier will begin the service with one round trip per day, conveniently timed for the business traveler. The flight will be operated with the newest aircraft in Eagle’s fleet, the popular 70-seat CRJ-700 regional jet. In addition, American Eagle will provide light meal service on the flight, along with its regular beverage service.

America West
America West resumed flight service between Spokane, WA and Las Vegas, after nearly a three-year break. The resumed daily service will be via a smaller aircraft, a 64-seat Canadair Regional Jet operated by Mesa Air Group. flying as America West Express.

Continental
Continental Airlines has begun providing nonstop daily service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and the International Airport in Morelia, Mexico. With the addition of Morelia, capital of the state of Michoacan, Continental will serve 21 cities in Mexico. The airline already serves more Mexican destinations than any other U.S. airline, with approximately 350 departures each week. Continental will utilize the 50-passenger Embraer regional jet, known as ExpressJet, on its nonstop service to Morelia.

Starting August 1, Continental will resume nonstop service between Newark and Hong Kong with four flights a week on 777 aircraft. The flights, which have a scheduled flying time of 15 hours, 45 minutes, will depart Newark on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flights will depart Hong Kong on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Continental.com is offering special fares to reintroduce the flights. Check with a NTM agent for rates and availability.

Delta Connection carrier Comair will operate two daily round-trip flights between Atlanta and Appleton's Outagamie County Regional Airport using the Bombardier CRJ regional jet.

Delta Air Lines will begin nonstop service between Cincinnati and Honolulu, Hawaii effective November 1. Delta will offer customers one round-trip, nonstop flight daily between its Cincinnati hub and the island paradise of Hawaii using 285-seat Boeing 767-400 aircraft (36 first class, 249 coach). Delta already serves Hawaii from Atlanta, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Finnair
Finnair will operate twice-weekly, nonstop winter service between Miami and Helsinki starting October 23. Boeing MD-11 aircraft will serve the route on Thursdays and Saturdays through May 28. The flights also will provide travelers with connections to Finnair's many Scandinavian, Russian, Baltic and east European destinations. Finnair also operates daily nonstop service between Helsinki and New York Kennedy.

Midwest
Midwest is launching nonstop service from Kansas City, MO to Orange County, CA effective October 1. Midwest is offering two daily flights on weekdays and one on Saturdays and Sundays.

The airline noted Orange County airport is 35 miles south of Los Angeles, providing what Midwest touted as a "convenient airport alternative" for L.A.-bound travelers.

Northwest
Northwest is expanding service to Alaska. Northwest will add a second seasonal daily nonstop between Minneapolis and Fairbanks, for travel June 7 through September 1. The carrier will offer two daily flights operated with a Boeing 757.

In addition, Northwest will again increase its twice-daily year–round frequencies to Ancorage to five daily flights on a seasonal basis. All five frequencies will be operated with a 757.

Northwest is offering one daily nonstop between Detroit and Anchorage between May 15 and September 1, using a 757 aircraft.

United
Starting in July 1, United will reinstate service between San Francisco and Hong Kong, which had been suspended earlier in June when passenger traffic dropped because of the SARS outbreak in several countries in Asia.

The carrier also said it will increase--from three to five days a week--service between San Francisco and Shanghai. Overall, United intends to add 54 flights systemwide to its schedule in July, including expansion in Eugene, OR; Fresno, CA; and Nashville, TN. United Express also will
launch new service between Washington (Dulles) and Montreal.

US Airways
US Airways initiated a new, seasonal, nonstop flight between Fort Lauderdale, its sixth U.S gateway, and Bermuda. The flight uses an Airbus A319 aircraft, with seating for 120 passengers, including 12 seats in First Class and 108 seats in Coach.

Effective September 5, US Airways plans to reduce service to the U.S. Virgin Islands, primarily to St. Croix, when the current schedule of six weekly flights (Sundays through Fridays) from Philadelphia to St. Thomas and on to St. Croix will cease. With the change, the Philadelphia-St. Thomas flight will operate Saturdays only until October 26 and then revert back to six days a week.

A spokesperson said economic problems as well as seasonal adjustments are the reasons behind the pullout. Others, though, are pointing to the U.S.V.I Port Authority's 25% increase in airport landing and passenger fees.
