New Check-in Policy

Northwest Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will change check-in times for domestic and international flights beginning June 17.

Customers traveling on domestic flights within the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii) will now be required to check-in 30 minutes before their flight and be onboard the aircraft 15 minutes prior to departure. Passengers traveling from Denver, Las Vegas, and Atlanta will be required to check-in 45 minutes prior to departure.

Customers traveling on international flights will now be required to check-in 60 minutes before their flight and be onboard the aircraft 30 minutes prior to departure. The international check-in policy applies to flights to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean as well as to trans-Atlantic, trans-Pacific, and Interport flights.

Northwest and KLM continue to recommend that customers arrive at the airport terminal lobby 75 minutes prior to domestic flights and two hours prior to international flights. Only the mandatory check-in times have been adjusted.

These changes are being made to reflect current airport processing times as they are affected by federal government security measures, as well as to better coordinate service with partner airlines.

Trans-Atlantic Alliance

In June, Northwest and KLM will initiate what is being billed as the "first trans-Atlantic alliance interline electronic ticketing service." The interline agreement will allow a traveler with itineraries involving both carriers to use a single e-ticket. Previously, customers were required to obtain a separate e-ticket for each carrier or obtain a paper ticket.
