Lufthansa Goes Wireless

Lufthansa signed a deal with Connexion by Boeing to install broadband Internet on its entire long-haul fleet of about 80 aircraft. Lufthansa tested the system on its Frankfurt-Washington flights from January to April, and had a good response from travelers. The airline is working with Connexion by Boeing on "a host of payment options" in which users would pay for full access with frequent flyer miles or a service fee. Japan Airlines and SAS also have "announced their intent" to install the service on their long-range aircraft, Connexion by Boeing said, and British Airways tested the system earlier this year. Installation on Lufthansa planes will begin early next year.
