Northwest Planes Get a New Look

Northwest unveiled a new aircraft paint scheme estimated to save the airline about 20% in future painting costs. The design uses fewer primary colors and eliminates some lines and stripes. Northwest estimates the changes will reduce their paint application costs by 5% and extend paint cycles from five to six years. The new design will be phased into the entire Northwest fleet during regularly scheduled repainting that is planned over the next five years. One thing that hasn't changed and remains prominent: Northwest's trademark "red tail".
