To Eat, or Not to Eat?

Five of the major airlines — American, United, Delta, Continental and Northwest — have all reported cutting spending on food in all classes of service for domestic passengers. Meanwhile, the airline appetite for the pay-for-food concept appears to be growing.

America West was the first carrier who launched a pay-for-food test back in January. Since then, Northwest has run its own test and Delta plans to launch pay-for-food on its new low-fare subsidiary, Song. US Airways spokesman expects to begin similar testing on a handful of their flights before the end of this month.

Food service varies on all flights and the flights that offer pay-for plans are not officially published by the airlines. For those travelers who are concerned about their airline meal service, be sure to check with your NTM agent prior to departure.
