Car Company Surcharges

Beware of increases for car rentals, as many rental companies implement new surcharges for 2003. Rental companies are reviewing their expenses by location and charging new fees where their expenses have inadvertently increased.

For example, the airport concession fees in Oakland, CA have increased, therefore, Hertz has added a $5 per day surcharge for rentals out of their Oakland facility. Similarly, Richmond, VA has a $5 per day surcharge and Dallas-Ft. Worth rentals will incur an additional fee of $1 per day.

Hertz Adds Satellite Service

Hertz rental cars at airport locations in California and Florida will be equipped with Sirius Satellite Radios starting December 1. A Ford model car with the satellite radio installed will cost $5 extra per day. The radio receives 60 channels of commercial-free music and 40 channels of news, sports and entertainment. The car models with satellite radios must be requested at the counter for now, but starting January 1, they can be reserved through all booking channels.
