Job Description:

Uses SQL Server database architecture knowledge to provide database expertise in the design, implementation, and administration of relational and dimensional database management systems. Performs capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery, and problem determination and resolution. Provides ongoing maintenance and support. Assists in the formulation of overall database environment planning. Provides advice and counsel to IS management concerning database technology and developments that affect systems in the database environment. Determines structural and storage requirements for the development of databases through systems analysis and design to ensure the most efficient customer database. Ensures database security by establishing data access and modification rights of all Corporate IT customers through various utilities. Determines standards and programming protocols for accessing databases via applications, programs, on-line query languages, report generators, or other access technologies to ensure consistency and efficiency. Helps develop and maintain database programming standards and naming conventions to ensure consistency.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and at least five years of experience as a developer and/or database administrator with relational and dimensional databases. Must have hands on experience with MS SQL Servers, DTS (Data Transformation Services) and replication tools. A programming/development background is required using the following: ASP/COM, .NET technologies, report and form generation and development. Must understand logical and physical data modeling, strong design and architecture skills, and have experience with database modeling software (VISIO or ERWIN). Working knowledge of relational and dimensional theory and a thorough understanding of database processes, utilities, and functions associated with relational and dimensional databases. Database required skills include creating stored procedures, triggers, views and tables. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Experience with Cognos Powerplay and Impromptu and a Microsoft MCDBA certification are preferred.
